Background
New York City families with 3- and 4-year-olds have access to free care through 3-K and Pre-K programs. However, these programs often end around 2:30 PM, leaving many parents scrambling to find affordable care for the rest of the day.
The City Council made a pilot program to offer free, full-day, year-round care to thousands of families. But this important program is at risk, as Mayor Adams has not committed to renewing funding. Some providers are already notifying parents that EDY services may not be available next year.
