UPC: A Five year Roadmap for Universal Public Child Care
-
For all New York Families
-
When a family is ready to put their child into care – anytime after the baby is six weeks old and up until their child is eligible to begin kindergarten – they would have access to the universal public child care system.
There would be no restrictions on access – all children means all children.
-
Child care coverage that meets the needs of working families, not just until 2:30 PM.
-
No family should have to travel more than 15 minutes for quality child care.
-
For families, accessing child care should be as simple as enrolling in public K-12 education. Parents should not be required to provide information beyond proof of a child’s age and the family’s address.
