Because of the relentless advocacy of parents, would-be parents, and the New York City Council, we have sucessfully saved universal 3-K from budget cuts.
But the final budget will be done by the end of June and we need to make sure to keep the pressure on to save 3-K and expand to 2 year olds.
What the Mayor promised so far:
-Permanent funding for 3-K - Permanent funding for 3,000 full work-day seats for 3-K and Pre-K -$5 million for outreach, enabling more families to apply for and access universal child care seats Here’s what we are still advocating for:
- 2-Care, free child care for 2 year olds -3500 non-income tested care for 0-2 year olds (this is the City Council’s proposal!) -Expansion of the full work day pilot to serve ALL 3-K and Pre-K families
